I created this diagram on Microsoft Paint (look at the artistry!) to expel any confusion about the similarities between Jane Austen and the Brontës, since this confusion seems to be a prominent issue on Tumblr.
Jane Austen and the Brontës are not the same. You can like one and hate the other. You can love both; you can hate both. However, you can’t get away with comparing the two solely because they were both women writers of the 19th century. Their styles of writing are thoroughly different as a result of the literary periods in which they wrote.
I honestly can’t handle seeing one more post comparing them incorrectly.
(Edit: I probably should have made a separate bubble for all the Brontës, especially Anne because she’s very different than Emily and Charlotte, but my main point was to generally exemplify the differences between Austen and Brontë, not the differences among the Brontës.)
